When I registered my first drone in Thailand, there was a lot of misleading information on the internet. At that time, I decided to provide reliable information on the internet AND keep that information up to date.
Here are my answers to questions about drone insurance in Thailand. And rest assured, I always keep them up to date.
1. Is drone insurance mandatory in Thailand?
Yes, a drone insurance is mandatory when you fly your drone in Thailand. It is necessary to get the permission of CAAT to fly legally too.
If you think, Thailand is easy with regulations, be aware that if you are caught flying without CAAT registration, you face up to 1 year imprisonment and / or 40,000 THB penalty (approx. 1100 US-Dollar).
2. What types of drone insurance are available in Thailand? Both liability and damage to the drone?
To obtain the CAAT permit, you must provide an international liability insurance policy in English. Either you have an insurance company that provides you with this policy OR you must take out one in Thailand.
In Thailand, you have a choice of different insurance companies such as FEIC or AA Insurance that offer this insurance. They charge around 1599 THB for a one year liability insurance in Thailand. However, it is better to take our choice, which is much cheaper and offers excellent service. Check out now
For loss and damage to the drone, FEIC offers insurance for 6000 THB that pays 90% of up to 70,000 THB of the purchase price
3. What coverage limits are required by the CAAT for drone insurance?
The insurance must have 1 million THB (27,000 US-Dollar) cover in order to be recognized by CAAT. This must be stated in the confirmation letter from the insurance company as well as the current insurance period.
4. Are there any exclusions in the policy that I should be aware of, such as specific activities or locations?
If you do not comply with the laws and rules of CAAT, the insurance company will not accept any liability. Therefore, please observe the no-fly zones, which can be downloaded from the CAAT website.
5. How can I obtain a drone insurance policy that meets the CAAT’s requirements?
We recommend our drone registration service for applying to declare your drone to the CAAT and the NBTC. This also includes affordable insurance for Thailand, which expires automatically after one year without having to be canceled.
6.What documentation do I need to provide to the insurer to get a drone insurance policy?
- Name of the insured person
- Address of the insured person
- Details of the drone: make and model + year of manufacture + serial number
- Names of operators/pilots
- Copy of the policyholder’s passport
- Drone photos (all sides and photo with serial number)
- Weight of the drone
7. How much does drone insurance typically cost in Thailand, and are there any additional fees?
